Notes To Self

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

Hyperfast megaviolence solomissions. Gun/blade/military violence vs tooth/fang/genemodcreature violence. Huge chasm in between.
Colorscheme: metal/grey/awesome.
“The Game” is a neutral character who enforces the rules of the game. She is Angelina Jolie and Carrie Anne Moss. She is dressed in a jumpsuit of leather acanthus leaves. She can hover, and has mirrorshades made of leather acanthus leaves. (Don’t [...]

Sordid City Blues and the prodigious use of relationship maps

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

Sordid City Blues is a seriously good webcomic about relationships, god, and stuff.
Unsurprisingly, it’s new cast page is a serious relationship map.

theFive and the prodigious use of mixtapes

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

Some folks released an early-version of theFive (“Feel the heat of the street with rapid-fire game play using dominoes, a NYC subway map and a slammin’ East Coast Hip Hop soundtrack.”), and is calling this early version a “mixtape”. (+1 for getting me interested.)
Oh, and they have some inspirational mixtapes of their own. (Another +1 [...]

Matrix hack: Lightweight pacing mechanism

Sunday, January 18th, 2009

Here’s a rule idea for pacing within missions. It’s simplistic – not much to “game” within it – but it gives some of the paranoid feel when you’re within the Matrix, running a mission. latest in borrowed ideas: style sheets!

Monday, January 12th, 2009

Yes, I’m borrowed Jonathan’s style sheets to patch a possible issue in the text of “the Dance and the Dawn”. I’m providing three style sheets, to get players on the same page in terms of setting and limitations:

A Faraway Land Straight-up fairy-tale aesthetics.
A Different Steel More of a slightly dark fairy-tale, with slight proto-feminist (maybe?) [...]

Matrix: More Music

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

(And a question: what season (IRL) is the right time to play a Matrix-themed game?)
I just remembered that “Down In A Rabbit Hole” by Bright Eyes is perfect telling this kind of story. Probably the entirety of “Digital Ash In A Digital Urn” is, but it’s a heavy album and I’m not yet up for [...]
