Governor: Rise to Power

This is just a stub for a game I’m only considering at the moment. This might end up as its own product, or might simply be a signpost for a campaign built on some other ruleset.

On a recently terraformed planet, new colonists establish a new world. The colony is left free to evolve its own infrastructure, economy and culture, but ultimately a single representative – the Governor – must rise among them as its leader.

This game is built on two questions: How can organization and leaders change a world? And how are they, in turn, changed?

Some specific inspirations for this include:


  • the Mars Trilogy by Kim Stanley Robinson

  • turn-based “God Games” (Alpha Centauri, Civilization)

  • works of political philosophy of varying quality (Locke, Jefferson, Machiavelli)
